Doris still considers herself an emerging artist because she has only been painting a few years. Crafts that she tried such as spinning, weaving, quilting, stained glass, and dyeing fabric were linked by her love of color. Doris spent many days just looking at the colors of the fabric she had dyed or glass that she had collected. Her fascination with color led her to the art of watercolor, where she found she could mix color right on the paper.

Doris began studying watercolor art with Naomi Brotherton in 2005. In 2006 she began weekly study with Sharon Serrago at Artists’ Showplace Gallery. Doris has taken workshops with the following respected watercolor artists: Ted Nuttall, Joseph Zbukvic, Stephen Quiller, Judy Morris, Steve Rogers, James Toogood, Maureen Brouilette, CecyTurner, Joyce Faulknor, Karen Vernon, Jane Jones, Soon Warren, Birgit O'Connor, John Salminen, Nick Simmons, Ken Hosmer, Margaret Huddy, and Arnold Lowrey.  Doris' "Art Mentor" is Karen Vernon.  With Karen's guidance and challenges, Doris continues to make artistic discoveries almost daily.

Doris paints in her studio in Rockwall, Texas and is a member of the Southwest Watercolor Society and the Rockwall Art League. Her works have shown at Artists’ Showplace Gallery in Dallas, the Rockwall Art League, Texas Roast Coffee Shop, and the Hilton Bella in Rockwall, Texas. Her works are currently showing at The Gallery at Round Top, Round Top, Texas.
